Road test help that focuses on what is actually tested
The road test is short — usually 10 to 15 minutes — and every minute counts. Our road test preparation concentrates on the maneuvers and habits examiners watch for, practiced until they are automatic. Then, on the day, we bring our school car so you do not have to worry about the vehicle.
What the road test includes
- Parallel parking — a required part of the test
- The three-point turn (K-turn) — also required
- Backing up in a straight line for about 100 feet, looking over your shoulder
- Starting, steering and stopping smoothly, including full stops at stop signs
- Turns, intersections and yielding the right of way, including to pedestrians
- Following other vehicles at a safe distance, using signals and the horn properly, and sitting and buckling up correctly
Our road test package
- Practice lesson(s). We drill parallel parking, the K-turn and backing up, then drive the kind of streets found around the test sites.
- Warm-up on test day. We pick you up early for a final run-through so you arrive relaxed.
- Our school car. Insured, dual-control, clean, with working lights and signals — and we bring its registration and insurance papers.
- A ride home. Only the examiner rides with you during the test; we wait and drive you back afterwards.
The road test sites closest to our area are in Rahway (1140 Woodbridge Road) and Newark (228 Frelinghuysen Avenue). Tell us your appointment date and time when you book so we can reserve the car.
If it does not go well
It happens, and it is not the end of the world. You must wait at least 14 days before the next attempt. We go through what the examiner noted, practice exactly those points and help you go back better prepared.

Questions & answers
Road Test Help & Car: FAQ
Can I use your car for my road test?
Yes. Using a driving school car for the road test is allowed. We bring our insured school car and its documents to the test site, do a warm-up with you and drive you home afterwards.
Can the instructor ride with me during the test?
No — only the examiner is allowed in the car during the test. Your instructor waits at the site.
Which road test site is closest?
Rahway and Newark are the road test sites closest to Union. We can bring the car to other sites too — ask when you call.
What do I need to bring to the road test?
Your validated permit, your original 6 Points of ID documents and, if you are under 21, the signed certification of 50 supervised hours and red decals on the plates. See our road test checklist for the full list.
How soon can I retake the test if I fail?
You need to wait at least 14 days. We use that time to practice whatever the examiner flagged.
Do I need lessons if I already drive well?
Even good drivers lose points for small habits — rolling stops, missed head checks, wide parallel parking. One or two focused lessons before the test are usually worth it.
